Video: Nvidia debuts automated parking and AI assistant for future cars

10 November 2021

At Nvidia GTC 2021, Nvidia Corp. debuted several new processes for automated driving including intelligent parking and an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant to help with the daily drive grind.

The company introduced the Drive Concierge and Drive Chauffeur AI platforms. Drive Concierge is an AI assistant that uses Drive IX technology and Omniverse Avatar, which works directly with Drive Chauffeur, to make the driving experience better.

Omniverse Avatar provides real-time conversational AI that connects speech AI, computer vision, natural language understanding, recommendation engines and simulation. Omniverse Avatar creates a platform of interactive characters with ray-traced 3D graphics, which can understand a wide range of subjects and natural language spoken.

Additionally, Drive Concierge can book reservations, make phone calls and provide alerts such as if a purse is left behind in the vehicle.

In the video, a digital assistant in the center dashboard screen helps a driver select the best driving mode to reach a destination on time.

Automated parking

The AI also features an on-demand valet, allowing for automated parking using interior cameras and a multimodal interactive system to ensure that drivers keep their eyes on the road. It can also summon the vehicle, search for a parking spot and reconstruct a 3D surround view of the vehicle using neural graphics.

The automated parking is built on the Drive Hyperion 9, which includes a centralized Nvidia Drive Orin system-on-chip (SoC) and complete sensor architecture. The SoC achieves 254 trillion operations per second and is designed to handle a large number of applications and deep neural networks to run simultaneously in self-driving vehicles.

The Hyperion 8 sensor suite consists of surround cameras, radars, ultrasonics and front lidar to provide 360° surround scene interpretation.

Chauffeur take the wheel

Meanwhile, the Drive Chauffeur is an AI-assisted driving platform based on the Drive autonomous vehicle software development kit (AV SDK) that can handle both highway and urban traffic. Using compute architecture and the sensor set of the Drive Hyperion 8, the system can drive from address to address.

The system is designed for the everyday commuter and to perceive the world in 4D for autonomous operation.
