Dialog Semiconductor plc is partnering with Carnival Corp. to integrate wireless ranging technology into Carnival’s wearable devices.
The wireless technology will be used for proximity-based location positioning to help with passenger safety and offer enhanced cruise services.
The wireless ranging technology will connect to the Medallion device on Carnival’s ships to offer internet of things (IoT) services to on-board passengers. The wearable device enables touchless embarkation and disembarkation, frictionless commerce and keyless stateroom entry. Additionally, it offers on-demand services, wayfinding, family and friends locator, interactive events and activities planner and other interactive entertainment.
The companies said the technology will also help with new requirements and regulations involving COVID-19 by providing limited contact with other passengers and crew, reducing risk.
Dialog’s WiRa (wireless range) technology offers ultra-wideband accuracy, extended battery life and multipath cancellation allowing the wireless signals to pass through walls built with steel. WiRa includes Dialog’s DA1469x Bluetooth LE system-on-chip, AT25FF SPI NOR flash and SLG46108V GreenPAK technology.
