Drone Delivery Canada Corp. is working with the University of Toronto Institute of Aerospace Studies and the Ford Motor Company to test automated drones that tracks and lands on a moving ground vehicle.
The project would help to expand the applications for quadrotor drones. The University of Toronto said the more advanced drones become, the better they will be at inspecting infrastructure, search and rescue in remote environments, tracking moving objects for security and delivering packages.
The project will involve repeated landings on moving vehicles while maintaining the position accuracy to within 10 centimeters even as the speed of the target vehicle increases.
