SK Telecom and Woowa Brothers are collaborating to develop robot delivery services using the Korean telecom’s 5G edge cloud technology.

Woowa Brothers operates Korea’s biggest food delivery app by market share and has been focusing on these delivery services using smart, self-driving robots.

Under the agreement, the two companies will work together to commercialize 5G edge cloud-based robot delivery services using SK Telecom’s 5G edge cloud platforms and mobile networks. Additionally, the companies will upgrade the Dilly Drive LTE-based outdoor food delivery robot service to operate through SK Telecom’s 5G edge cloud.

Woowa has been testing the operational efficiency on its robot management system using ultra-low latency transmission of video taken by robots using 5G edge cloud since June.

Delivery robots using 5G will be able to automatically and constantly readjust paths taken on roads and sidewalks in real time as well as respond to unexpected situations immediately.
