OnAsset Intelligence has used its Bluetooth low energy (LE) gateway to read 12,000 Bluetooth 5 tags in a single room in under 60 seconds to prove the technology’s viability in large-scale industrial use cases.
OnAsset said that industrial quality and scalable tracking and monitoring systems are needed to perform in high volume conditions for the global supply chain. These include temperature-controlled pharmaceuticals, reusable asset management and global logistics and warehouse operations that are becoming increasingly automated. The current pandemic from COVID-19 has put additional strain on all logistics operations and supply chain visibility is being recognized as a necessary foundation for the future of the global supply chain.
Bluetooth creates a common bridge between mobile devices people use every day and large-scale logistics operations that can have millions of assets in a single facility. In these dense environments, Bluetooth has successfully operated at industrial scale using real equipment, OnAsset said.
OnAsset said it is partnering with Silicon Labs for its asset tracking technology and the company is applying its wireless internet of things (IoT) products to industrial applications at scale.
“[OnAsset’s] successful large network test is demonstrating the leading edge of ultra-high-density, power-sensitive asset tracking technology,” said Ross Sbolcik, vice president and general manager of Silicon Labs’ commercial and industrial IoT products.
