Lighting vendor Osram is supplying the lighting for the MetroSnap, the concept vehicle from Rinspeed that will be showcased at the upcoming CES 2020.
The Swiss automotive vendor already announced its MetroSnap vehicle prototype for CES, which is a pod-type chassis that can swap between different pods designed for transporting people and goods or delivering items.
Osram has installed its automotive lighting and sensing applications into the MetroSnap prototype to help illuminate the future of driving. It will be on display at Osram’s CES booth in the North Hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The electric MetroSnap prototype’s “skateboard” chassis connects to two different types of bodies or pods with Osram components for lighting and sensing used to create dynamic and human centric lighting as well as biomonitoring and biometric applications enabled by infrared light sources.
On the exterior of the MetroSnap, Osram provided thousands of addressable pixels that project valuable information and warning symbols on the road for passengers and pedestrians. Lidar technology for applications such as smart braking and intelligent display systems appear on the front and back of the vehicle for visual communications with other road users. Additionally, LED license plates serve as human-machine interfaces for further driving experiences.
On the inside of the MetroSnap, Osram provided 3D facial recognition and palm recognition systems and ambient and human-centric lighting that can adjust the brightness and temperature preferences of passengers and drivers. Finally, in-cabin monitoring is included to scan the cabin for forgotten objects and notifies passengers if something is left behind.
CES 2020 takes place Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas.
