At Mobile World Congress 2019, Taoglas has introduced an indoor distribution antenna system (IDAS) aimed at expanding connectivity inside buildings.
The two new multiple input multiple output (MIMO) long-term evolution (LTE) antennas are designed for use at indoor locations such as office buildings, stadiums, conference centers, shopping malls, hotels and other areas where high-performance indoor connectivity is required.
Wireless connectivity has become a major consideration for business owners, as more than 80% of wireless data traffic occurs indoors, Taoglas said. With the growing use cases of internet of things (IoT) applications such as smart lighting, heating management, connected security as well as monitoring, pollution and earthquake warning systems, more businesses are relying on indoor LTE networks to handle the traffic.
However, many of these have little to no cellular coverage. IDAS antennas bring coverage to these areas that traditional base stations cannot reach. The devices also benefit low-power wide-area network (LPWAN), Category M (Cat-M) and narrowband (NB)-IoT networks.
The antennas deliver 4G LTE MIMO coverage worldwide but also cover 3G and 2G bands. The devices can be installed on walls or in a circular ceiling mount design with customizable cable lengths, cable types and connector types.
Mobile World Congress 2019 is taking Feb. 25-28 in Barcelona, Spain.
