Streaming has become a way of life for how we music and video enjoyment. User can instantly access services such as Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Amazon Prime and many more for content. Streaming has come a long way in a short time, and with the advent of new technologies opportunities to do more are on the horizon.
As a result, Google is testing its new streaming platform called Project Stream, which is designed to test the limits of streaming by making a blockbuster video game playable through a browser.
Google is offering users a playable version of "Assassin's Creed Odyssey" through a browser. Source: UbisoftGoogle has partnered with Ubisoft to stream the upcoming video game “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” in a Chrome browser, either on a laptop or desktop PC. Google will invite a limited number of participants to play the game starting on October 5.
The challenge is to stream graphically-rich content that requires near-instant interaction between the game controller and graphics on the screen. When streaming movies or music, consumers get a few seconds of buffering at the start, but with video games, latency is measured in milliseconds without any graphic degradation.
Project Stream will seek the right balance between the user and the game through a browser that allows for instant feedback and control. The video shows “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” being played through Chrome using Google’s streaming technologies.
Google is offering the chance to take part in Project Stream now. To find out how to apply, go to Project Stream.
