System-on-Chip Enables True Wireless Stereo Audio Streaming Over Bluetooth Low Energy

19 September 2018

Dialog Semiconductor plc has introduced what it claims is the first stereo high fidelity (HiFi) quality audio streaming over Bluetooth low energy (BLE).

The company demonstrated the technology at this week’s Bluetooth World 2018 as a proof of concept for the future of wireless earbuds and other hearables. The audio over BLE technology runs on Dialog’s SmartBond SoC that makes use of the low energy option only and offers audio synchronization between left and right channels.

“There is a clear demand from end-users for True Wireless Stereo audio, particularly in environments where even a single wire between earbuds can prove cumbersome and frustrating,” said Sean McGrath, senior VP and GM of Dialog Semiconductor’s Connectivity Business Group. “This proof of concept demonstrates Bluetooth low energy’s potential to deliver the solution developers need, while overcoming the limitations of existing technology that have traditionally held devices back from their true potential.”

Dialog will be showcasing the technology at Bluetooth World 2018 taking place this week in Santa Clara, California.
