Lenovo will join the ranks of manufacturers with bezel-less smartphones with the release of their Z5 smartphone. The new phone will feature a 95 percent screen-to-body ratio. As a comparison, the Galaxy S9 has an 84 percent ratio and the Apple iPhone X clocks in at about 83 percent. The Lenovo Z5 will be introduced at an event in Beijing on June 5.

From what few pictures are available, the Z5 will not have the notch that so many other "all-screen" smartphones have. For example, the Apple X has a notch at the top of the screen to house its camera. It is not clear where the camera is placed on the bezel-less Lenovo smartphone. One conjecture is that it could feature a pop-up camera like the Vivo Apex that was featured at CES 2018 this past January and slated for a June 12th launch in China.

Rumored specifications include 45-day standby time and 4TB of storage in addition to the 95 percent notchless screen display. According to Lenovo VP or Technology Chang Cheng, the new phone is based on "18 patented technologies" and features four major technological developments.

There is no hint on the cost of the smartphone or when it will be released for purchase, but if the rumored specs are correct, it could be a real technological breakthrough.
