The Electronic System Design Alliance (ESD Alliance) has entered into a memorandum of understanding to become a SEMI Strategic Association Partner.
Under the agreement, the ESD Alliance will continue to act as the voice of the semiconductor design industry to promote its value as a component of the global electronics manufacturing supply chain but the addition of joining SEMI will expand its geographic reach.
The inclusion of the ESD Alliance inside the partner program expands SEMI’s mission to encompass the entire electronic product design and manufacturing chain, whereas previously it focused solely on electronics manufacturing.
“It makes perfect sense for the two groups to work together, given SEMI’s broadened mission and our expertise in electronic design,” says Bob Smith, executive director of the ESD Alliance. “The ESD Alliance will be the focal point for the design ecosystem as it always has. The only difference is that the ESD Alliance will be operating as a strategic partner under the SEMI umbrella.”
SEMI will provide the ESD Alliance the ability to expand its reach and activities beyond North America while SEMI will benefit by receiving direct engagement with the design ecosystem from the organization and strengthen its ability to serve the entire electronic product manufacturing chain.
The ESD Alliance says the semiconductor industry has grown and matured where many disparate areas in the industry now overlap and the need to work together becomes more important.
Under the agreement, the ESD Alliance Board of Directors will continue to govern the ESD Alliance’s community, setting the organization’s direction and will function as an Executive Advisory Council of SEMI. The integration is planned for completion this year.
