A group of U.S.-based semiconductor vendors have formed an alliance to accelerate chip research, development and prototyping to bolster domestic manufacturing of electronics and protect intellectual property.
Simply called the Semiconductor Alliance, the chipmakers propose the foundation for a whole-of-nation approach for a more innovation-focused U.S. semiconductor industry and supply chain. The goal is to increase global competition in the U.S. for semiconductor manufacturing as well ensure American innovation leads to American growth.
The chipmakers involved in the alliance include Intel Corp. Micron Technologies, Analog Devices Inc. and MITRE Engenuity.
The companies said it will focus on all facets of U.S. semiconductor ecosystems including integrated device manufacturers, fabless chip companies, infrastructure providers and those developing manufacturing tools and design as well as innovators from industry and academia.
"The semiconductor industry in the U.S. is at an inflection point,” said Ann Kelleher, executive VP and GM of Technology Development at Intel. “There has never been a more important time to come together as an industry to establish the path forward to advance the foundation of innovation that will help solve the nation's biggest challenges.”
The alliance said it will support the spirt of the CHIPS for America Act to re-establish American leadership in chipmaking.
