There is a new autonomous robot in town and it is making smoothies all day, every day.
Blendid is the product of food service robotics company 6d bytes and is designed to help food vendors meet the needs of customers with blended drinks that are prepared without any human intervention.
Customers use mobile apps or tablets at the robotic station to browse through the menu and then pick and customize a smoothie. They also make payments through the app or tablet after which the robot prepares and serves the blended smoothie in under two minutes.
Blendid is the latest in a trend of using robots to deliver food to consumers in efficient ways without human involvement. While Blendid is a standalone unit that can be plugged into food courts, gyms, cafeterias, supermarkets, airports, stadiums and offices, there are other inventions such as the Robby 2 autonomous food delivery robot that deliveries groceries to users’ doorsteps. There is also Zume Pizza’s crust making robot that helps get orders out quicker and Flippy, the burger flipping robot, which helps to accelerate orders in restaurants, sports venues and more.
Blendid can operate 24 hours a day without any human intervention meaning it could well find a place in airports or gyms that operate at all hours of the day and where consumers want a change from the usual fare found in these locations.
6d bytes says that smoothies are just the beginning and it plans to add more cuisines and formats to its autonomous robot vendor in the near future.
