Herb & Body has introduced their new product SMALT, the first interactive centerpiece that doubles as a smart salt dispenser. SMALT has built-in mood-lighting and a Bluetooth speaker to play music. SMALT dispenses measured amounts of salt either manually or via “shake,” “pinch” or “pour” modes using the companion app for iOS and Android. Users can link it to their Amazon Alexa, which helps track salt consumption and can easily reorder salt when they are running low.

Consumers have two ways to control the color-changing mood-light and sound. They can either control it directly from the interactive interface/LCD screen on the device or via the SMALT app. SMALT comes with rechargeable batteries that last up to four hours. It also has Bluetooth 4.0, which allows users to stream music indoors and outdoors.

SMALT has a metering mechanism that allows users to dispense their desired amount of salt easily, placing the exact amount in a small, removable tray at the bottom of the device. Through the SMALT app, users can make hand gestures with their smart phone to indicate how much salt they want: from shaking their phone to shake the salt out of SMALT or making a pinching motion on their screen to dispense a pinch of salt. When SMALT is paired with Amazon Alexa, users can use simple commands to dispense exact amounts of salt by saying something like “Alexa dispense a teaspoon of salt.” Salt consumption is a big problem among Americans. Overuse of salt can lead to health problems like high blood pressure. SMALT is an easy way to monitor salt consumption and help make sure that users are not consuming too much salt.

SMALT has launched an Indiegogo campaign with a funding goal of $25,000. There is a limited early bird special of $99 USD, which is 50 percent off the retail price.
