Source: ON Semiconductor ON Semiconductor has introduced a new 29 megapixel charged couple device (CCD) image sensor designed for industrial imaging applications that provides twice the imaging sensitivity of the previous generation image sensor.

The KAI-29052 image sensor is beneficial to applications operating in near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, such as 850nm. An improved amplifier design reduces read noise by 15 percent, increasing the linear dynamic range available from the device to 66 dB, ON says.

The image sensor is pin compatible with the previous existing KAI-29050 image sensor but also a fully family of 5.5 micron and 7.4 micron CCD image sensor, enabling camera manufacturers to adopt the new image sensor into future devices, the company says.

The sensor works with industrial imaging applications such as high end security, machine vision and aerial surveillance and mapping.
