During the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), ON Semiconductor Inc. has introduced a 13 megapixel image sensor designed specifically for smartphones.
The AR1335 image sensor is based on 1.1 micron pixel technology for performance smartphone sensors featuring color filter array (CFA) processing advancements that ON Semi said increase the sensitivity by nearly 20 percent compared to previous generation image sensors. ON claims the image sensor delivers a near digital still camera quality experience but with a smartphone.
The AR1335 supports 4K ultra-high definition (UHD) and cinema formats at 30 frames per second and full HD 1080p at 60fps.
Shung Chieh, VP of consumer imaging for ON Semi’s Image Sensor Group, said in a statement the advancement of technology, smart design and optimized production has allowed ON to manufacture an image sensor that delivers “a full, rich camera experience” for smartphones makers.
The AR1335 is in mass production and ON said it has already been designed into several smartphone models with availability expected to be in the second quarter of 2015.
