Chinese fabless chipmaker Actions Semiconductor has rolled out an all-in-one chipset targeted at personal 3-D cinema headsets such as the Oculus Rift.
The V100 chipset integrates an MIPS32 processor with an integrated video engine, display subsystem and audio engine to deliver a 3-D video experience with support up to 1280 x 800 LCD display and all standard video decoding playback capabilities. The chipset also includes a DDR2/DDR1 DRAM, SPI NOR, NAND flash controller, integrated RGB and LVDS interface, built-in stereo 20-bit DAC and 20mW power amplifier for headphones.
Actions says the chipset allows for a big-screen viewing experience but in a personal 3-D cinema headset. This experience can be viewed at anytime from anywhere, and the device can be used beyond just personal entertainment, including in applications such as commercial advertising. Actions is targeting the chipset for entry-level wearable 3-D viewers where keeping a low price point is the ultimate bottom line.
