InvenSense and Arm Accelerator Bet on IoT in China

Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) house InvenSense Inc. and ARM’s Chinese technical services division, ARM Innovation Ecosystem Accelerator (ARM Accelerator), have entered into an agreement to speed up development and innovation of the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart hardware in China.

Under the agreement, InvenSense will make available its portfolio of motion and audio platform MEMS, such as the SensorStudio software tool and its Firefly development kit, which includes a MEMS 6-axis sensor (3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer) to be combined with integrated ARM and motion processors, and sensor framework software. These devices will interface with an Arduino Zero board that will enable sensor prototyping and development of IoT applications.

ARM Accelerator provides workshops, training and design services for IoT and works with domestic designers in order to speed up the path from prototype to production across various IoT segments, the companies say.

Eitan Median, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at InvenSense, says with China becoming a global leader in the IoT, the developer ecosystem in China “is in need of sensor product experience, resources and tools.” The partnership between ARM Accelerator and InvenSense is a “significant step” toward accelerating “adoption of sensors in this very important market,” Median says.
