Last year, Intel Corp. received a Guinness World Record for flying 100 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), more commonly known as drones, simultaneously in the sky over Germany.
Now the company has matched that feat by doing the same thing in Palm Springs, CA, after receiving an exemption from the FAA to pilot multiple UAVs in American airspace. It is the first time 100 drones, built by Intel company Ascending Technologies, have ever been flown over U.S. soil.
Furthermore the FAA has announced that Intel CEO Brian Krzanich will lead the Drone Advisory Council—a group established to provide recommendations to the FAA on issues regarding drone innovation, safety and industry expansion. As part of the group, Krzanich will help in the decision-making process regarding priorities and key issues in getting more UAVs over national airspace.
