Broadcom Corp. launched a new family of secure microcontrollers (MCUs) featuring integrated Near Field Communication (NFC) capability for connected devices.
Broadcom (Irvine, Calif.) says the BCM58100 family—part of the company’s StrataGX portfolio of communication processors—is designed for PCs, mobile point of sale terminals and applications for the Internet of Things (IoT).
Broadcom also says the BCM58100 is the industry's first secure MCU to integrate NFC for tap-to-access, tap-to-pair and tap-to-pay applications in a growing number of products.
The BCM58100 is sampling now. Key features include:
- Broadcom’s proprietary BroadSAFE security architecture, including tamper protection, encryption, multi-factor authentication and secure storage and processing for both card information and biometric user data.
- NFC compliant reader.
- Low-power ARM Cortex M3 processor with up to 250 megahertz and advanced power management for longer battery life.
- 512 kilobytes static random access memory to eliminate the need for external random-access memory.
- Tightly coupled software environment with Broadcom's Bluetooth Low Energy products.
- Integrated audio jack I/F support.
- System I/O integration including USB H/D, SMBus, UARTs and SPIs.
- 10x10 millimeter (mm) footprint compatible package for small form factor designs.
