Synopsys Aims to Accelerate Adoption of ARC Embedded Systems

27 February 2015

EDA and IP vendor Synopsys Inc. has launched a software platform to speed the development of ARC-based embedded systems.

The embARC Open Software Platform is an open-source software suite designed to ease the creation of embedded applications for the Internet of Things (IoT) and other products. The platform includes device drivers, operating systems and middleware that is ported to and optimized for ARC processors. The suite is available for free download at a Synopsys-based Web site where the developmental tools and documentation can be found.

Some of these tools include pre-ported drivers for GPIO, UART, SPI, I2C and other peripherals as well as real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS and Contiki OS in order to give developers a choice of software environments, Synopsys said. The choice of middleware components is a good starting point for the development of IoT-related devices, the company said.
