Japanese chipmaker Renesas Electronics Corp. has acquired Pictorus, an Oakland, California-based maker of cloud-based behavioral modeling platform.
The move will help Renesas to accelerate embedded system development beyond point tools and to a connected platform for model-based system design.
Specifically, the deal will enhance Renesas 365, a platform that unifies electronics system development from discovery to development and lifecycle management. It will allow engineers to design, express and simulate system behavior and intend to accelerate application development cycle.
The cloud native platform brings Renesas closer to realizing its digitalization vision to make electronic design accessible to broader markets like automotive, robotics and industrial equipment sectors where software-defined solutions are advanced quickly.
“Incorporating Pictorus’ capabilities advances system design on Renesas 365 by combining current architectural modeling capabilities with behavioral modeling and simulation,” said Leigh Gawne, VP of R&D and digital industries for software and digitalization at Renesas. “In addition, Pictorus’ technology will drive a further left shift through rapid virtual prototyping and code generation, accelerating exploration and evaluation, enabling faster, more optimal device selections.”
