Altera, a division of Intel Corp., has begun production shipments of the Agilex 7 field programmable gate array (FPGA) M-Series, which integrates high bandwidth memory and supports DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory technologies.

The series offers more than 3.8 million logic elements making it optimized for applications needing high performance and high bandwidth like:

  • AI
  • Data centers
  • Next-generation firewalls
  • 5G communications infrastructure
  • 8K broadcast equipment

These applications require higher memory bandwidth, increased capacity and improved power efficiency, Altera said. The Agilex 7 FPGA series help to reduce the memory bottlenecks and latency, the company said.

In data centers, the device provides high memory bandwidth and high-performance FPGA fabric for faster processing and more power efficient data handling of generative AI models.

In firewalls, the chips offer high-performance data paths, deep memory buffers and connectivity.

In 8K HD video, high bandwidth supports the transfer of massive amounts of data between the image sensor pipeline and the chip.

In Gigabit Ethernet technologies, it can enable the development of 800 GbE test equipment.

Other features of the FPGA include:

  • DDR5 and LPDDR5 support
  • Up to 32 GB high-bandwidth memory
  • 820 BGps of peak memory bandwidth
  • Network-on-chip (NoC) functionality
  • Hardened IP for PCIe 5.0, CXL 2.0 and 400G Ethernet
