Warehouse drone achieves 99.9% inventory accuracy

13 February 2025

A third-party logistics (3PL) provider is pairing its new autonomous inventory management system with drones in warehouse settings.

Staci Americas — a provider of warehousing, order fulfillment, transportation and returns management services — has launched its Corvus One Autonomous Inventory Management System, which is designed to accurately track and store materials in warehouses.

According to its developers, the system conducts scheduled lights-out flights nightly off-shift, which reportedly ensures that any inventory discrepancies are flagged by the Corvus One system.

Once detected, the discrepancies are then corrected ahead of the upcoming shift the next morning, thereby allowing production and inbound teams to focus on their tasks instead of searching for inventory.

The system, when paired with a drone, runs an inventory check round-the-clock without the aid of humans, in a lights-out distribution center without any added infrastructure such as reflectors, stickers or beacons.

To enable this, the drone system employs computer vision and generative artificial intelligence (AI) to understand its environment. Further, the autonomous drone can operate in both narrow and wide aisles, and the system possesses obstacle detection capabilities, which allows the drone to hover without colliding with humans, other robots, forklifts or assorted objects.

Additionally, the drone can scan barcodes anywhere on the front of cartons or pallets. The company suggests that inventory management system paired with the drone might boost productivity by up to 10 times at warehouses, while also cutting labor costs.

The company explained that the system ensures “99.9 percent inventory accuracy, can free up to 10 percent total pallet racking space, and reduces shrinkage and material handling equipment costs.”
