Trident IoT launches Z-Wave compatible silicon

30 April 2024

Semiconductor smart home startup Trident IoT has rolled out a series of silicon solutions aimed at supporting Z-Wave, which will include a system-on-chip (SoC) and modules.

Called Taurus Z-Wave series, the silicon will include Z-Wave long range (ZWLR) for the U.S. and the latest implementation of the ZWLR European specification. It will allow engineers to build Z-Wave solutions with higher performance and long battery life, range and memory, Trident said.

The Taurus series’ features include:

  • Arm Cortex-M33 microprocessor
  • 1 MB flash program memory
  • 288 KB of SRAM data memory
  • Sub-GHz transmission at +20dBm and +14 dBm
  • Distance range of up to more than 1 mile
  • Support for Z-Wave Plus, Z-Wave Plus v2 and ZWLR
  • Support networks of up to 4,000 nodes
  • 10-year battery life from single coin-cell

“ZWLR is a revolutionary technology, with the power to expand the reach, scale and utility of IoT applications while preserving full backward compatibility with currently deployed Z-Wave devices,” said Avi Rosenthal, chairman of the board at the Z-Wave Alliance. “This new Z-Wave silicon offering, paired with the Trident IoT SDK and design services, will enable more Z-Wave Alliance members to take advantage of ZWLR capabilities, bringing exciting new products to market faster around the globe.”
