Shelly Group is expanding its smart home lineup for the U.S. and North American market, including new Z-Wave long range (ZWLR) technology.
Shelly Group has been developing IoT and smart building solutions for home automation and connectivity in Europe but recently formed Shelly USA, a subsidiary of Shelly Group, to enter and expand its presence in North America.
Announced at CES 2025, the Shelly Wave products are built on the Z-Wave 800 series that are purpose-built to support ZWLR functionality as well as existing UL-certified Z-Wave devices. The expanded Shelly Wave devices will support ZWLR and includes three battery-powered devices.
ZWLR benefits
Shelly Group said ZWLR provides a range boost for devices to communicate across distances over 1 mile at full power.
ZWLR supports up to 4,000 devices on a single network, which is a 20 times increase in Z-Wave node support compared to Z-Wave mesh but it can also co-exist on the same network as Z-Wave mesh.
Finally, ZWLR offers encryption and backward compatibility with existing Z-Wave devices to enable integration and operations with future and past devices.
Expansion of devices
Shelly Group’s new North American portfolio will provide devices for a variety of applications from basic point-to-point home automation to more complex device installations. The company’s ZWLR devices work where long-range connectivity is needed with an energy efficiency like in large homes, multi-unit properties, commercial settings and other properties.
The portfolio includes:
- Shelly Wave Plug US
- Shelly Wave Door/Window
- Shelly Wave H&T
- Shelly Wave Motion
- Shelly Wave Dimmer
- Shelly Wave Pro Dimmer 1 PM
- Shelly Wave Pro Dimmer 2 PM
