Chipmaker Microchip Technology Inc. has expanded its Detroit, Michigan, automotive technology center doubling its lab space to focus on high-voltage and e-mobility applications.
The 24,000 sq ft facility allows automotive clients to see how Microchip’s can support end applications and designs. The expansion was part of phase three of the project and was undertaken to meet ongoing demand in the automotive sector.
Microchip said the expansion will also help bring more jobs to the region.
“Our vision for the center is to provide our automotive customers with the confidence to choose the right solutions for their designs by helping them to cut design effort and time to market by providing world class technical support locally,” said Matthias Kaestner, corporate vice president of Microchip’s automotive business.
The Detroit automotive technology center includes:
- Compute and zonal networks in ADAS platforms
- High-voltage lab for demoing silicon carbide solutions
- Human-machine interface lab
- USB and networking resources
- Automotive MEMS lab
- Automotive security solutions training
