Lidar has become an important part of the modern automotive vehicles as technology has advanced to include as standard options advanced automotive assistance systems (ADAS).

ADAS is quickly being integrated into numerous vehicles, electric or otherwise, for added safety functions and when distracted driving becomes a problem. Lidar is the center of many of these ADAS functions as the sensor relays information to the car to make decisions in case the driver cannot.

Lidar is also being purported as part of the technology that will allow for automated driving functions to eventually be launched in vehicles. Huawei 96 Line lidar has been developed for Chinese automotive OEMs to add ADAS and other functions to next-generation vehicles.

The system is powered by Lattice Semiconductor’s FPGA and includes a time-of-flight rotating mirror and 8K mobile camera.

Main board

The main board is the brains of the lidar system with the electronic components on the board including:

  • Lattice Semiconductor’s FPGA
  • Macronix’s serial flash memory
  • ISSI’s DDR4 SDRAM memory
  • HiSilicon’s 8K UHD mobile camera SoC
  • RichTek’s 8- and 3-amp step-down DC-DC converter
  • Nexperia’s dual power MOSFET
  • Infineon’s step-up DC-DC converter
  • Toshiba’s power MOSFET

Receiver board

The receiver board contains electronic components used for connectivity. It includes the Sony SPAD depth sensor, Nexperia’s dual inverter and TI’s MOSFET driver.

Motor board

The motor board contains the optical and electronic components for operation of the motor parts on board the Huawei 96 Line lidar system. These include:

  • Sensirion’s digital temperature sensor
  • ST Microelectronics’ serial EEPROM memory and LDO regulator
  • IC-Haus’ optical encoder
