At this week’s Embedded World 2022, SolidRun has rolled out a new line of system-on-modules (SOMs) based on the RZ/G2 64 bit family of system-on-chips (SOCs) from Renesas.
The SOMs include memory and I/O subsystems that along with the 64 bit Cortex-A55 processor cores deliver 20% greater processing power over conventional Cortex-A53 core processors running at the same frequency. The SOMs are integrated with an Arm Mali-G31 3D GPU for image processing capabilities without tasking the CPU, and is nearly six-times faster than what is possible with standard Cortex-A53 processor-equipped devices.
This is the first product that has emerged from the SolidRun and Renesas partnership to develop SOMs that are engineered and positioned as a foundation for artificial intelligence-enhanced human-machine-interface (HMI) applications for industrial and building automation, video surveillance, internet of things (IoT) solutions and more.
The devices are pin-to-pin compatible with the NXP Semiconductor i.MX8 mini-SOM and users could pair the RZ/G2 SOM with the Hummingboard Pulse carrier board for prototyping and product development.
The SOMs are designed with small form factor devices in mind, and an embedded camera and display interface make the SOM an ideal platform for:
- Video doorbells
- Powered IP cameras
- Smart office controllers
- Network security cameras
- Intercoms
- Handheld POS systems
