Video: Samsung’s self-driving tech goes for a ride

06 January 2022

At CES 2022, Samsung Electronics showed its vision for in-vehicle experiences and technology that will allow for self-driving capabilities.

The concept video shows how Samsung combines the latest consumer electronics and information technologies with Harman, a Samsung subsidiary, automotive devices.

The video shows a vehicle receiving information on road conditions and other factors in real-time where the cameras and sensors analyze its surroundings and augmented reality is used to relay that information to the driver in their field of view. The driver sees the information in a safe way as it is overlaid with the real-world objects.

The driver gets the details on the vehicle itself and its status but also arrow-based navigation, forward collision warning icons and blind spot alerts when switching lanes. Directions, icons and insights are provided directly on the road.

Additionally, the system will connect to a range of services to enhance the driving experience such as directions to a local coffee shop where the vehicle uses map information and augmented reality to inform the driver of nearby locations.

Passengers can navigate through a menu and place orders right from the car or make virtual calls by allowing users to manage their meetings with AR.
