Through a partnership with Nvidia Corp., Volvo Cars’ next-generation car will debut automated driving technology designed to navigate real-world environments from door to door, including highways, urban streets and parking.
Neither company named the model nor gave a timeline for when the vehicle will be available.
The companies said this technology will provide AI-enabled car safety while “making driving feel easier and more effortless for customers.” It will gradually introduce eyes-off and mind-off driving as well, but the companies gave no timeline for this technology rollout either.
The announcement comes via a continued collaboration between the companies and will combine vehicle safety systems from Volvo with AI and accelerated computing technologies. This includes Nvidia’s Hyperion sensor and compute architecture, Halos OS and Alpamayo Stack driving software.
Nvidia’s Alpamayo software is a family of reasoning AI models and software built for autonomous vehicles and robotaxis. Nvidia’s Halos OS is a physical AI safety system for robots and vehicles that spans infrastructure, operating system, middleware and applications.
“Accelerated computing has transformed the car into an intelligent machine that can understand the world around it,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia. “Volvo has spent nearly a century protecting people on the road. Together, we’re combining Volvo’s extraordinary vehicle safety systems with Nvidia Hyperion and Halo OS to build a new generation of cars that make driving safer and more effortless.”
