Qorvo acquires UnitedSiC to expand power chips portfolio

RF wireless chipmaker Qorvo has acquired United Silicon Carbide (UnitedSiC), a manufacturer of silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors.

The deal will expand Qorvo’s portfolio into power semiconductors and its reach into electric vehicles (EVs), industrial power, circuit protection, renewables and data center power.

UnitedSiC will be integrated into Qorvo’s Infrastructure and Defense Products business and will be led by UnitedSiC’s president and CEO, Chris Dries.

UnitedSiC’s portfolio includes more than 80 SiC FETs, JFETs and Schottky diode devices, which could be used in:

  • EV chargers
  • DC-DC converters and traction drives
  • Telecom/server power supplies
  • Variable speed motor drivers
  • Photovoltaic inverters
