TSMC enhances 5 nm process technology

27 October 2021

Leading semiconductor foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (TMSC) has made an enhancement to its 5 nm technology platform.

As part of the enhancements to the portfolio, TSMC customers will have several choices for power, performance, area and cost for semiconductor design, according to the company.

The new enhancement, called N4P, will deliver 11% performance boost over the original N5 technology and a 6% boost over the N4 platform. Additionally, the N4P line will deliver a 22% improvement in power efficiency as well as 6% improvement in transistor density, TSMC said.

The N4P line will also lower process complexity and improve wafer cycle time by reducing the number of masks.
