Tektronix has introduced what it claims is the first eight-channel oscilloscope with more than 6 gigahertz (GHz) bandwidth per channel.
The tool is aimed at engineers working on sensing, radio frequency (RF), research and high-speed digital applications.
Called the DPO718AX, the tool, which is an expansion of the company’s 7 Series DPO, delivers up to 25 GHz across eight synchronized channels.
This gives engineers a choice between four channels at 125 gigasamples per second (GS/s) for maximum sample rate and low-noise performance or eight channels at 62.5 GS/s for synchronized sensor coverage.
Tektronix said this flexibility allows engineers to capture, compare and correlate more signals in a single acquisition, rather than piecing together data from sequential tests or multiple instruments.
This is important in applications where missed or distorted signals can change the outcome, including:
- Photon Doppler velocimetry
- Broadband laser ranging
- Spectroscopy
- Phased-array RF
- Electronic warfare
- High-speed serial validation
For research teams, Tektronix said the additional synchronized channels provide more sensor coverage and data redundancy to help engineers detect signal loss, timing differences, spatial variation, failure propagation and signal interactions that other systems could miss.
In RF, eight synchronized channels paired with Tektronix’s SignalVu PC support coherent multi-channel RF analysis, such as spectral, advanced vector-signal, pulse and radar measurements.
For serial validation, the oscilloscope simultaneously captures four differential lanes to speed up testing of multi-lane interfaces used in high-performance computing and consumer I/O.
