Tech company eSim.net Group Ltd. has launched what it claims is the first 5G-embedded universal integrated circuit card (eSim) service.
The company’s service, called Pay As You Go eSim plan, now operates over 5G networks in nine countries including China, Finland, Germany, Monaco, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates.
The plan is downloaded over the internet and helps users connect to mobile services in nearly every country worldwide. When 5G is not available, the service uses 4G or 3G technology to connect its users to data and voice services.
The plan includes a telephone number for voice and SMS in addition to being able to download data from the internet. The Pay As You Go eSim service was launched early this year in Europe with eSim.net expanding the reach of the service to other countries throughout the year.
As 5G destinations open, eSim.net plans to expand the service to more regions.
"It'll be an interesting year ahead as we see more individuals using this technology in their daily lives,” said James Ashby, product manager for eSim.net. “5G routers are already being used in homes to speed-up broadband connections and there's sure to be a huge rise in the availability of 5G handsets in the next year."
