Wireless edge module developed for IoT device

06 November 2019

Avnet Inc. has introduced a new wireless edge module targeted at allowing designers of the internet of things (IoT) to add connectivity to existing equipment.

Dubbed the Avnet Guardian 100, the module is used in end-to-end product development to reduce the time, cost and complexity of IoT implementations. The module is plug-and-play, allowing onsite IT to install it into existing enterprises via Ethernet or USB, with dual-band Wi-Fi providing connection to the cloud.

The module is designed with Microsoft’s Azure Sphere allowing secure direct communication with the cloud. Data is transmitted between trusted cloud and device communications partners, ensuring the software of the module and the equipment remains intact and secured.

Avnet said the Azure Sphere unites hardware, software and cloud to meet all seven properties of secure IoT devices: hardware root of trust, defense in depth, small trusted computing base, dynamic compartments, certificate-based authentication, failure reporting and renewable security.
