At this week’s Paris Motor Show, Daimler announced that it will be adding a fourth city to its Car2go carsharing service: Paris.
Already in Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Germany, and Madrid, Car2go offers flexible car rentals to residents of those cities via mobile app. Initially, 400 of Daimler’s smart EQ Fortwo cars will be available for rent in the French capital, and this will expand in 2019 to include hundreds of additional cars.
To date, Daimler has serviced more than 400,000 customers through its electric fleet of vehicles with the Car2go service, driving more than 79 million zero-local-emission kilometers.
The goal of the service is to not just offer rental vehicles to people without cars, but to also help manage traffic and parking, as well as provide an environmentally friendly alternative to other means of transportation or ride-hailing.
Daimler said it chose Paris because it met the pre-conditions for launch, including the size and population density of the city, the local public transportation network and the work-leisure-residential balance in the urban districts.
