Additive manufacturing usually refers to the 3D printing process used to build components in layers. Italian 3D printing company WASP has added a new meaning to the phrase by building up a global network of innovation-sharing business units.
According to the company, the WASP Hub network currently consists of 10 units, with three in Italy; one each in the U.S. and Asia; and five located mostly in major European cities. Two more European locations are on the way. Each unit of the “Hub” is a workspace equipped with digital fabrication machines.
WASP stands for “World's Advanced Saving Project,” so it’s no surprise it considers each unit to be a laboratory for creating objects to be used in various areas identified as serving basic human needs — food, health, home, energy, digital fabrication, art and culture. The units are also designed to share discoveries, materials and even job opportunities.
