The Si72xx portfolio of magnetic sensors.
Silicon Labs has expanded its magnetic sensor portfolio for Hall-effect sensing in an I2C configuration and built-in tamper detection and temperature sensing.
The new Si72xx portfolio provides solid-state reliability for white goods, flow meters, cordless power tools, wheel and dial-type controls for consumer electronics, industrial alarms, motor controls and door/window security applications. The sensors are also AEC-Q100 qualified for automotive applications and designed to withstand hard industrial environments.
Hall-effect sensors are more reliable but are also hungrier. Traditional Hall-effect sensors only offer a few programmable capabilities and advanced features that other modern sensor types use in internet of things (IoT) applications. Silicon Labs says its new sensors address the power efficiency of reed switches with the reliability of Hall-effect sensors while adding more features, sensitivity and configurability.
The Si72xx portfolio includes three families. First, the Si720x family supports digital output switch and latch capabilities in a variety of sampling rates and sensitivities for applications that need periodic on-off signals with the change of a magnetic field. The second family, the Si721x, includes linear output devices for position-sensing applications that produce signals directly proportional to the strength of the magnetic field. Finally the Si7210 family of I2C configurable sensors support all the features and capabilities of the other two families with design flexibility and programmability.
Production quantities and samples of the Hall-effect magnetic sensors are available today priced at $0.45 in 10,000 unit quantities.
