SII Semiconductor Corporation has introduced the new S-35710M built-in 32.768 kilohertz quartz crystal convenience timer for automotive applications. This timer exhibits low current consumption compared to the implementation of embedded microcontroller timer functions. It is suitable for management of time and can reduce system standby current.

The S-35710M is a 2-in-1 timer with an integrated circuit (IC) and quartz crystal built into one package, reducing the external components needed and also produces an accurately matched oscillator and crystal.
The S-35710M is good for time management during sleep periods when an engine is shut down. The alarm time is programmable down to one-second increments, from one second to 194 days. This timer and its low current consumption reduce the system standby current.
Demand for periodic status management during engine shut down is influenced by fuel evaporative emission regulations. Blank detection capability is required for electric vehicles in order to monitor the battery’s status when it is charging or not in use.
The S-35710M is packaged in a lead and halogen free 8-pin HSOP-8Q package.
