Silicon Labs has expanded its any-frequency clock portfolio with new versions that combine the clock IC with a quartz crystal reference inside the same packaging.
This is designed to simplify board layout and design while simultaneously guaranteeing reliable start-up and operation over the lifetime of the product, Silicon Labs said. Silicon Labs has also introduced multi-profile support available across its Si5332 family for developers to consolidate multiple clock tree configurations into a single part number.
Silicon Labs said traditional clock generators rely on an external, discrete quartz crystal frequency reference where the crystal interface circuit must be carefully designed for capacitive load matching. The Si5332 clock generator address these limitations by integrating the crystal reference inside the package.
The crystal is shielded from external PCB noise, enabling the clock tree on a chip to offer lower jitter compared to versions of the 5332 using an external source.
The multi-profile features allows for the consolidation of up to 16 clock tree configurations in a single IC and the device can now replace combination devices that do the same function.
