Space-saving, Surface-mount IPMs Give Designers Choice

The new SLIMM nano devices. (Source: ST)The new SLIMM nano devices. (Source: ST)STMicroelectronics has expanded its SLLIMM nano-family to include five space-saving, surface-mount intelligent power modules (IPMs) that gives designers a choice of insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) or metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) outputs for in-motor or space-constrained drives.

The modules offer high conduction and switching efficiency at frequencies up to 20 kilohertz and the integrated gate-driver circuitry is engineered to minimize electromagnetic emissions (EMI) by managing switching voltage and current slopes. Other features include an uncommitted operational amplifier and a comparator that let designers implement advanced current sensing and over-current protection with minimal external components, ST says.

The IPMs work with a wide range of domestic and industrial appliances, such as small fans, roller shutters, refrigerator compressors, dishwashers, draining and recirculation pumps and general low-power motor drives.

The devices are sampling with volume production scheduled for the fourth quarter priced at $5 for 1,000 pieces.
