MEMS Sensor Board Enables Accelerated IoT and Wearables Development

06 December 2016

STMicroelectronics (ST) has introduced a miniature multi-sensor module designed to speed up development of wearables, gaming accessories, and smart home and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

The turnkey sensor board includes a 3-D accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer; a pressure sensor/barometer; digital MEMS microphone; microcontroller; and Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) transceiver.

The sensor hub can be plugged into a host board, and when it is powered up, it starts streaming inertial, audio and environmental data into ST’s smartphone application that can be downloaded from Android and iOS application stores. The kit includes a cradle board, which carries the 13.5 mm × 13.5 mm SensorTile core system in standalone or hub mode. The board contains a humidity and temperature sensor, a micro-SD card socket and a lithium-polymer battery (LiPo) charger. The layout is designed to provide a simple layout for designers looking to prototype a wearable device.

The kit is available through distributors priced at $89.
