Analog Devices' ADIS16490 IMU
Analog Devices, Inc. has introduced a tactical-grade Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) featuring industry-leading precision and stability in a small, lightweight, low-power solution. The ADIS16490 IMU paves the way for high-accuracy navigation, guidance and positioning in applications ranging from aviation and unmanned systems, to machine control and precision instrumentation, to smart munitions, which were previously impossible due to prohibitive size or cost barriers.
According to the company, the device delivers the performance expected from legacy solutions that are three times larger and more weight, at a fraction of the overall cost and power. It finally brings tactical-grade stability to applications other than those with unlimited budgets.
The device delivers tactical-grade in-run bias stability of 1.8 o/hour and 3.6 micro-g, low angular random walk (0.09 deg/root-hr), and low-velocity random walk (0.008 m/sec/root-hr).The device is highly immune to vibration (0.005 o/sec/g) and shock (2000 g) over extended temperature range.
Analog Devices will sample two new variants of the ADIS16490 IMU by the end of 2016. The ADIS16495 and ADIS16497 IMUs will offer greater dynamic range options, which translate into improved design flexibility and broader application reach for system developers.
The ADIS16490 has a gyro range of 100 dps and an accelerometer range of 8 g; the ADIS16495 has a gyro range of up to 2000 dps and an accelerometer range of 8 g; the ADIS16497 has a gyro range of 2000 dps and an accelerometer range of 40 g.
List price for the ADIS16490 is $1,645. The ADIS16495 and ADIS16497 are $1,719 each.
