Continuing to build on product lines developed by International Rectifier, Infineon Technologies AG has released a new family of highly integrated synchronous buck regulators with digital interface I²C/PMBus. Called SupIRBuck, the high efficiency DC/DC regulators integrate PWM controller, power MOSFETs and bootstrap diode in a single power quad flat no-lead (PQFN) package. Offering space-efficient solution, the integrated voltage regulators provide accurate power delivery for low output voltage and high current applications.
Due to the programmable digital interface with remote testing via telemetry, designers will be able to reduce design and test times significantly. According to the maker, the highly integrated regulators can further cut board space by about 50 percent as compared to conventional 2-chip solutions.
SupIRBuck from Infineon Features Programmable Digital Interface
Designed for applications in data centers, network storage, wireless infrastructure, mass computing or industrial automation, the SupIRBuck regulators, IR38060, IR38062, IR38063 and IR38064, can be configured via PMBus and the configuration stored in internal memory. In addition, 75 PMBus commands allow precise run-time control, fault status monitoring and telemetry of parameters like Vin, Vout, Iout, T or Pout. The new synchronous buck regulators can also operate as a standard analog regulator without any programming and can provide current and temperature telemetry in analog format.
While IR38060 offers an output current of 6 A in a PQFN 5x6 mm package, IR38062, IR38063 and IR38064 provide 15 A, 25 A and 35 A respectively in PQFN 5x7 mm packages. The output voltage range is 0.5 V to 0.875*PVin with an input of 1.5 V to 21.0 V. The devices are specified for the industrial temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C. The new voltage regulators support a high switching frequency of up to 1.5 MHz and high telemetry accuracy (Iout ± 5%). Plus, the accuracy of the reference voltage is specified with 0.5 percent.
