TowerJazz JV Building Chips for Fairchild

09 December 2014

Specialty chip foundry TowerJazz Panasonic Semiconductor Co. (TPSCo) has begun mass production of discrete chips for the industrial and consumer markets at its fab in Tonami, Japan, according to a statement issued Tuesday (Dec. 9) by Tower Semiconductor Ltd.

TPSCo is a joint venture owned 51 percent by TowerJazz and 49 percent by Panasonic Corp.

The initiation of mass production was achieved after a months-long process transfer from Fairchild to TPSCo, according to the statement. Collaboration between the two companies has enabled record time to mass production,” said Zmira Shternfeld-Lavie, vice president of process engineering R&D at TowerJazz, in the statement.

“We chose TowerJazz as they are a market leader in process transfer capabilities and are known for the quality of their technical teams and transfer methodologies,” said Wei-Chung Wang, senior vice president of operations at Fairchild, in the statement.
