ARM's Latest Design Center to Focus on FinFET IP

10 October 2013

Processor intellectual property licensor ARM Holdings plc (Cambridge, England) has opened a design center in Noida in northern India. The site will support ARM's physical IP division, which provides design components for the design and manufacture of ICs.

The company declined to say how many engineers have been employed initially or how many it intends to employ there over time. However, the center is being set up to focus on IP design for planar and FinFET CMOS.

For now, the rival leading-edge manufacturing technology of fully-depleted silicon-on-insulator (FDSOI) is not on the work schedule at Noida. A spokesperson for ARM Noida said in an email that ARM has other locations working on SOI but that Noida would be able to develop IP for FDSOI if the need arises.

Noida joins ARM's Bangalore site in India, which celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2012. Overall, ARM employs about 2,700 staff with offices in 15 countries.
