Keysight Technologies unveiled a 14-bit, low-profile, four-channel mixed-signal oscilloscope that is targeted at scalable, space-constrained test systems.
Called the XR3, the oscilloscope is designed to increase measurement capacity in rack-based test systems without the space, weight and cabling required by traditional bench instruments, Keysight said.
The oscilloscope could be used in aerospace, defense, manufacturing and physics applications.
Keysight said the device allows engineers to pack measurement and analysis capability into dense equipment racks without space constraints as the XR3 occupies one rack unit (1U).
Why a 1U oscilloscope is needed in test systems
Keysight said single bench oscilloscopes are no longer the typical setup in test systems as test systems now require several instruments working in synchronization. Every additional unit takes up more space, adds cabling and introduces signal skew.
Previously, engineers had to choose between a system with the flexibility of a full-featured oscilloscope and a more compact version for high-density applications.
“Engineers building dense test systems should not have to choose between measurement performance and rack space,” said Jun Chie, vice president of product management at Keysight Technologies. “The XR3 brings benchtop-class capabilities to a compact, scalable platform, helping customers add synchronized channels, simplify integration, and preserve measurement confidence as their systems grow.”
The XR3 is built on Keysight’s MegaZoom 5 application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and a 14-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC). It delivers a 50-microvolt root mean square (µVrms) noise floor and an update rate of 1.3 million waveforms per second, Keysight said.
Multiple instruments can be synchronized to combine more than 100 time-correlated channels in a single system, which Keysight said accelerates debug and reduces time to market. Each instrument offers selectable bandwidths from 200 MHz to 1 GHz.
