Micron Technology has signed agreements with Qualcomm, Visteon, Harman, Joynext, Denso, Astemo and Hyundai Mobis to supply memory for automotive platforms.
The agreements will provide visibility into memory and storage that will be important for current and future vehicle production. These companies are part of the global automotive ecosystem that builds infotainment systems, audio systems, connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and semiconductors for vehicles.
Micron said that with increasing levels of intelligence being integrated into vehicles, memory and storage will become a strategic need for automotive safety and in-cabin experiences as well as how drivers and cars communicate.
Under the agreement, Micron and the partners will have greater visibility for production planning as well as increased collaboration on future memory and storage requirements. This will help support these vendors with technology development, qualification and manufacturing capacity investments.
This is particularly important considering the supply and pricing issues currently facing the memory market. Part of the reason for these supply and pricing issues is due to increased usage of storage and memory in AI data centers that are increasingly using more capacity as graphics processing units (GPUs) and data racks get more sophisticated.
Micron said this visibility and planning will help vendors balance longer product lifecycles and qualification standards.
