Rambus brings server-grade memory chips to AI PCs

27 May 2026

Furthering its portfolio of silicon memory interface chips, Rambus Inc. has launched a complete three chip DDR5 chipset for next generation AI PCs that includes a clock driver, power management IC and serial presence detect (SPD) hub.

The chips will be used for memory modules including:

  • Clocked Unbuffered DIMM (CUDIMM)
  • Clocked Quad DIMM (CQDIMM)
  • Clocked Small Outline DIMM (CSODIMM)

Rambus said that because AI PCs now require persistent context, concurrent processing and continuous data movement between the processor and system memory, the chipset addresses signal integrity, power delivery and system coordination at the module level.

Additionally, it simplifies the design and deployment of high-performance memory module solutions, the company said.

Why it matters

DDR5 memory above 6400 MT/s runs into signal integrity issues with jitter, degradation and timing instability. Clocked modules solve this by putting a clock driver on the module itself.

Rambus is putting not just the clock driver in the chips but offering it as a complete solution that includes power delivery and signal conditioning in one package.

This chipset also extends the AI PC work down to the client/PC tier and 9600 MT/s for higher performance machines and workstations.
